  18. GMC-BBS is a mailbox-program written for the Commodore AMIGA by Gerhard and
  19. Christine Moerth. This manual will guide you through the installation and
  20. helps you handling the software.
  21.  
  22. Generally a Bulletin Board System (BBS) is a program which clearly arranges
  23. a lot of notes. Users also can read and write private mails or up- and
  24. download programs. Every operation is protected by a security level.
  25.  
  26. GMC-BBS Version 2.20 is shareware. This means that you can make as many
  27. copies as you want and pass them to as many persons (also on electronic
  28. way) as possible. The share version is limited as follows: the box is
  29. ready only one week from date of first installation, the number of users,
  30. up- downloads, messages and private mails is limited to 15.
  31.  
  32. In the following you find a listing of many details of the program - use-
  33. ful if you want to compare it with other programs.

  37. Bulletins, messages and files can be arranged in maximal 100 directories
  38. with unlimited subdirectories. Each directory has it's own security level.
  39. Directories and subdirectories can contain any number of bulletins,
  40. messages and files. The limit is only the available disk space.

  44. GMC-BBS uses external and internal transfer protocols. At the moment
  45. "X-modem-checksum"  and  "x-modem-CRC" are integrated. The program
  46. switches automatically to the protocol of the caller. You can include
  47. external protocols such as X-modem, Y-modem, Z-modem, Bi-Modem etc. which
  48. correspond with XPR standard with the configuration file.

  52. The security level can be individually set for every user.

  56. All serial I/O-routines are optimized by hand for best performance.

  60. The SysOp can change time limit, security level, printer output, screen
  61. output, serial input and output online at any time.

  65. Shortcuts for the main functions.

  69. Usergroups with a special info text can be created and time limits can be
  70. given out unlimited.

  74. The emulations TTY, TTY+CLS, VT100/ANSI, VT100/ANSI+CLS can be set by
  75. every user.

  79. Special characters are accepted. From OS 2.0 on you can use all graphic
  80. possibilities of the ANSI emulation with an IBM font. It is urgently
  81. recommended to use operating system 2.0 or higher.

  85. GMC-BBS was written for highest speed, reliability and flexibility.
  86. Efficient programming technique leads to 100% multitasking use under
  87. OS 1.2, 1.3, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1. The program was written in C and tested on
  88. different machines.

  92. NTSC, PAL and drivers for the serial.device or for internal modems are
  93. configured in the TOOL-TYPES.
  94.

  97. The serial.device can be released to use other terminal programs without
  98. restarting GMC-BBS. You can switch the mailbox to "not ready" to backup
  99. your hard disk. During this time there will be no access on the hard disk
  100. or floppy disk.

  104. Internal, external and highspeed modems are supported perfectly (e.g.
  105. higher DTE speed between computer and modem which allows data
  106. compression).

  110. Detecting fax call and transmission to external fax programs is possible.
  111. At the moment ready scripts for Multifax (TKR) and TrapFax (Village
  112. Tronic) are included. If your modem has no fax detection or your fax
  113. software cannot handle an existing line you can also connect an external
  114. fax switch.

  122. Multitasking will not be effected. You can do whatever you want, GMC-BBS
  123. is programmed correctly so it can run in the background.

  128. Built in timer for automatically harddisk-parking.

  132. Built in timer for periodically loading of the system time. The system
  133. time is checked and even the program will be stopped because suggestive
  134. working is not possible without correct time.

  138. Online packing for download-files can be used by every user (e.g. LHA,
  139. LZH, ZOO, ARC, ...). After finishing the user gets a message.

  154. well as fast modems.
